I moved to the Northern Wood in Winter of 2025 – it was a chance for a new beginning in a beautiful and wild place.
My small cottage – stone and wood – sits on the edge of a meadow at the end of a long drive. At the edge of the meadow is a wood rail fence that borders my neighbours fields.
The yard backs on to the treeline of the forest, birch, aspen and pine.
At night there are lights in the field and sometimes I see flashes of red among the trees.
I love it here, but it is strange.
I thought it was just the isolation and the fact that I wasn’t used to the rural life, but the people are strange too.
I’ve began this diary in the hopes I can better understand my new life and categorise my experiences.
