Bess, her children and Barbie came over yesterday bringing the makings for breakfast along with them.
I made up a mountain of scrambled eggs, sliced ham, bacon and coffee and we all ate until we were stuffed.
Bess’ oldest operated the toaster, buttering thick slices of her mother’s homemade bread. It was one of the best things I have ever eaten.
Skobeth accepted little tidbits and treats from everyone until she fell asleep in a sunbeam right on the table.
The children laughingly, scooped her up and took her to the next room.
With a side-long glance at Barbie I told Bess about my dream.
She nodded into her coffee cup as I explained how the sisters were blocked from my yard.
Barbie snorted and said something rude about Tana.
“Do you like Kat any better?” I asked her.
“Kat stays away from me because she knows better,” was all she responded making Bess roll her eyes.
Bess stood up and began clearing dishes. She moved around my kitchen opening and closing cupboards before finding a small shallow dish.
She placed it on my stove and poured a measure of salt into it and then added a crust of bread.
“Keep that there,” she said. “Change it at the full moon and touch the salt and bread before you use the stove.”
“For what purpose?” I asked her.
“For what reason do you need purpose?” She turned her attention out the window to the meadow field. “You need all the help you can get.”
She collected her children and Barbie and left.
I followed her instructions about the salt and bread before making dinner.
She hasn’t steered me wrong yet.
